Reynaers UK Marketing Placement: An Insight

A few words from Matt, after completing his two week placement with the UK Marketing team.

About Matt

I am currently a second year Media and Communications student. Education often feels isolated from the world of work so I opted to complete an employability module, honing transferable skills and gaining a greater understanding of the application process and the graduate job market. Undertaking a work placement is a compulsory component of this module. Being on such a media-driven degree, the role of marketing has always been of interest to me and this work placement provided the perfect opportunity to gain experience in the industry.

Why Reynaers?

Reynaers has always been a model business for me, having completed work experience in other departments previously. At the end of summer, I spoke with Sam, the Head of Marketing, about spending some time within the department, and this happened to line up perfectly with my employability module. The team at Reynaers are amazing and being able to spend time in a smaller marketing team was highly beneficial. It allowed me to see all aspects of their marketing operations and really feel part of the team.

What I’ve learnt

I’ve managed to get stuck into a variety of tasks across marketing. With the digital side, I’ve been involved in compiling social analytics using Google Analytics, as well as the creation of social media content, and scheduling of this content, plus other digital activities including building web pages. With offline marketing, I supported the proofreading of product brochures, press releases and the newly updated CPD slides. This placement also allowed me to gain a greater feel for a professional environment with meetings with agencies and the office atmosphere in general. Being trusted to have so much involvement in these activities has been truly gratifying. Starting this placement at the start of 2023 has been highly beneficial for me as it’s allowed me to see the yearly planning and the start of many marketing processes, as opposed to simply being dropped in the middle of these with little understanding. The marketing team has been extremely helpful, guiding me through the marketing processes and their journeys into the role.

This experience has helped me in a plethora of ways. It’s allowed me to develop my interpersonal skills in a professional environment and practical skills that are relevant to a marketing role. It has also shown me what is needed for the role and what recruiters are looking for, as well as giving me relevant experience to meet these criterion and enhance my CV. This experience has highlighted to me the importance of a placement whilst studying. A module only teaches so much, but a placement contextualises your learning and gives you practical experience in the field. As a result of this placement, digital marketing is an avenue I hope to explore further in the future. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Reynaers and would like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity.
