If asked to describe this property most would say it's a spectacular new home designed in an appealing contemporary style, with abundant glass, to let the daylight flood in - that would be perfectly correct. But it might come as a surprise to know it's also one of the most energy efficient homes ever build in Ireland. This property in Meath, featuring large windows and doors, is one of the first homes in the country to meet the exacting standards of Passivhaus. The concept Passivhaus isn’t yet familiar to many. Put simply, it's a set of rigorous and voluntary efficiency standards aimed at producing ultra-low energy homes that is growing ever more popular with owners and builders. Huge panoramic windows and doors from Reynaers At Home were fitted in the Meath house to ensure the view of the surrounding countryside could be maximised without compromising the thermal performance of the property. Dublin architects Peter Legge Associates designed the home with an upper storey clad in a refined pale timber while the lower storey was built almost entirely of glass, allowing light to travel through a series of vast windows and doors that were fitted to complement the home's bold, modern aesthetic. The property makes use of an ultra-high insulation sliding door system (we call it CP 155) that contributes to insulation vales lower than 1.0 W/m2K for the glazed element while being able to support huge panes of glass. The CP 155 can support doors up to three metres high and 400kg in weight.
