In a study conducted by Estate Agent Knight Frank, it was revealed that 72% of homeowners rate a property’s energy efficiency as more important now, than before the conflict in Ukraine. With the UK experiencing such significant rises in fuel prices since the war started, it is perhaps unsurprising that we are looking for any way to reduce our costs by making our homes more energy efficient. The same article on Knight Frank’s findings also references the results of a poll conducted by YouGov and The Times which found that 72% of the public support the goal to achieve net zero by 2050. A deadline that is creeping ever closer.
With these statistics in mind, the sustainability of our homes is becoming increasingly important and one of the best ways to make a difference is to choose sustainable products from suppliers committed to sustainability.
Aluminium windows and doors – a closer look at sustainability
Aluminium windows and doors continue to prove popular among homeowners for their premium look and performance, but the good news is, they are a sustainable choice too.
As reported by the Council for Aluminium Building (CAB) aluminium is virtually 100% recyclable without losing any of the material’s characteristics. And because of this ability to be successfully recycled, 75% of all aluminium produced over the last 140 years is still being used today.
Aluminium is also considered to be a sustainable building material because it boasts a lifespan of 30-40 years, ensuring windows and doors made from the material are durable and robust, and retain their insulating properties for the long term. The already impressive natural life expectancy of aluminium can be extended further still with coatings that protect the material against the elements.
So, we know that aluminium as a material is sustainable, but are there differences between the manufacturers that make them?
The Reynaers Act – a commitment to sustainable aluminium windows and doors
Different manufacturers will have varying levels of commitment to sustainability when it comes to producing and delivering aluminium windows and doors. Some do nothing, some do the bare minimum, and some are genuinely making it a priority.
Reynaers Aluminium falls under the latter category and has made positive changes to the business to improve its sustainability. We have made a public pledge in our published sustainability strategy report, Reynaers Act to reduce our carbon footprint and to ensure we meet the necessary high standards for sustainability. Some examples of changes we have committed to include the use of greener vehicles, utilising renewable energy, and reviewing our operations and buildings to see where we can make further improvements. These measures are also being implemented in our operations worldwide and we aim to achieve our sustainability goals by 2030.
In addition to looking at our own operations, we are also dedicated to supplying innovative energy efficient home improvement products and guiding our partners towards these more sustainable aluminium window and door solutions.
Aluminium home improvements as an environmentally conscious choice
The task of improving our homes has been getting increasingly exciting but at the same time more complex with so many more decisions to make with regards to materials, colours, energy efficiency and style. Choosing sustainable products from suppliers committed to sustainability is another consideration that is becoming increasingly important.
