Useful tip: weight at the top or bottom of bifold doors?

The type of bifold doors that we offer are mounted on sets of rollers that run within a track set into the floor. The rollers carry the weight of the door and transfer that load to the floor.

Some other bifold doors can be hung from rollers at the top of the frame and while this can work well in isolation, it is worth considering this point:

The top of the door frame is secured to the lintel above the door meaning the extra weight of the door suspended from the frame will be transferred to the lintel. So, the lintel needs to be strong enough to take all this extra weight.

That’s not a consideration when the doors have the weight at the bottom, like ours do.
